THE PLAYLIST SESSIONS

Rock & Roll Col·lage

ICONIC BANDS & ARTISTS / MIXED GENRES & STYLES

Studio-Based / Group Playing Experiences

The Playlist Sessions are studio-based, group playing experiences hosted inside a 2400 sq. ft ventilated facility, designed as an alternative to Festival of Friends live event programming, offering recreational musicians and vocalists safe opportunities to play (in a band-setting) classic songs from a range of iconic bands and artists without the pressure of a live show environment.

If you're new to Festival of Friends Events these sessions are a fun and easy way to get involved in our bandshare programming and become a part of our growing community of local recreational musicians.  If you're already involved in the community, The Playlist Sessions are yet another way to band together.  We look forward to your participation!

Read our COVID-19 policy here.

The Playlist Sessions / Rock & Roll Collage

The Playlist Sessions are made up of:
  • 4, in-studio cover bands showcasing material by iconic bands and artists across a range of genres and styles.
  • Guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists who have registered in advance for the session want.
  • 5-song, uniquely curated playlist per band session (with each band choosing one additional song they'd like to add to their session's set).

The Playlist Sessions are for:
  • Armchair musicians as well as routine players with an intermediate to advanced-level skill set (even if its been a while and you're just looking to kick off the rust).
  • Who can accurately learn material on their own and readily apply it in a studio band setting.
  • The requirements for participating musicians is to come to the session ready to play and/or sing (i.e., know the songs and your respective parts accurately), be respectful to your session band mates and have lots of fun!

What are the benefits of participating?
  • Simple, convenient and low-pressure way to meet new players and play some killer songs.
  • Improve your overall playing through focused and goal-oriented practice time.
  • Try out new musical styles you might otherwise not have considered or had the opportunity to explore.
  • Spend less time organizing a band and more time applying your passion and skills.
  • Band together and be part of a growing recreational musician community.

How It Works

  • Register for the "session time" you want to participate in (see options below).
  • Using original studio tracks (song versions provided below) as a reference each registered participant accurately learns their respective playing and/or vocal parts prior to arrival.
  • Each 1-hour session is made up of the following timeline:
    • Set-up, tune-up, volume check (5 minutes)
    • Session band warm-up jam (5 minutes)
    • Playlist "run-through" (25 minutes per band)
    • Studio "performance" (25 minutes per band)
  • Studio space is back lined with 5 piece drum kit, bass amp, mic stands (vocalists are required to bring their own microphones), mic cables and PA system with guitarists, bassists and keyboardists bringing their own instruments and stands. Drummers bring their own sticks and are welcome to bring cymbals, thrones, pedals, etc to mix w/the house kit if they prefer.
