FESTIVAL OF FRIENDS EVENTS / SEATTLE, WA
Festival of Friends Events are made up of:
- Pre-organized cover song performance collectives showcasing material by iconic bands and artists performed by a rotating cast of musicians over the course of the evening.
- Guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists (available instrumentation per event is material dependent) who've registered in advance for the songs they want to perform on their primary instrument.
- During open registration participants choose a minimum of 2 songs and a maximum of 4 songs (based on their primary instrument). If there are additional songs available that you're interested in playing on (beyond your initial selections) we'll notify you about remaining options (at no extra cost) after open registration has closed.
- During open registration all participants select playing slots from one or more of the showcased bands below based on their primary instrument, playing level experience, confidence in learning material, vocal range, etc.
Festival of Friends Events are for:
- Armchair musicians as well as routine players with an intermediate to advanced-level skill set (even if its been a while and you're just looking to kick off the rust).
- Who can learn material on their own and readily apply it in a live event setting. There are no auditions or formalized rehearsals. We put everything together in real-time on stage!
- The only requirements for participating musicians is to come to the show ready to perform (i.e., know the songs and your parts to the best of your ability), be respectful to your event bandmates and to have lots of fun!

Event Theme: Icons of Grunge
This event theme will showcase classic material by the heavy hitters of the Seattle grunge scene from the late 80s through the mid-90s, providing participants a diverse range of material to choose from while offering audiences an eclectic showcase of local music history.
Featured Band: Soundgarden
Soundgarden was one of the seminal bands in the creation of grunge and was one of a number of locals bands signed to the record label Sub Pop. Soundgarden was the first "grunge" band to sign to a major label but the band did not achieve commercial success until they popularized the genre in the early 1990s with Seattle contemporaries Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. Soundgarden achieved its biggest success with the 1994 album Superunknown, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Featured Band: Alice In Chains
Alice in Chains formed in Seattle in 1987 by guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney, who then recruited bassist Mike Starr and lead vocalist Layne Staley. Although widely associated with grunge music, the band's sound incorporates elements of heavy metal throughout their work. The band is known for its distinctive vocal style, which often included the harmonized vocals between Staley and Cantrel. The band was one of the most successful music acts of the 1990s, selling over 20 million records worldwide.

Pearl Jam formed after the demise of Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament's previous band, Mother Love Bone, The band broke into the mainstream with its debut album, Ten, in 1991, with Pearl Jam going on to become one of the key bands in the grunge movement of the early 1990s, To date, the band has sold an estimated 60 million worldwide. Pearl Jam has outlasted and outsold many of its contemporaries from the alternative rock breakthrough of the early 1990s, and is considered one of the most influential bands of that decade.

Featured Band: Nirvana
Nirvana was an American rock band formed by singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined in 1990. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important alternative bands in history. Though the band dissolved in 1994 after the death of Cobain, their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence modern rock and roll culture.

Both guitarists will double-up on rhythm parts as appropriate and/or worked out ahead of time. Overall song presentation by all musicians should follow standard instrumentation and arrangements as originally recorded on the song's studio versions, keeping everyone on the same page regarding practice time and event performances.
