U2 / RATTLE AND HUM 'SELECTIONS' (1988)

During the Rattle and Hum era (1987–1989), U2 were at a turning point in their career, expanding their sound while openly engaging with American music history. Following the massive success of The Joshua Tree, the band explored roots influences such as blues, gospel, folk, and early rock and roll, drawing inspiration from artists like Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, and B.B. King. Rattle and Hum was released in 1988 as both a double album and a concert film, blending live performances with new studio recordings. Songs such as “Desire,” “Angel of Harlem,” and “When Love Comes to Town” reflected U2’s fascination with American culture, spirituality, and social issues. The project captured the band at their most ambitious, documenting their rise to global stardom while questioning the weight and responsibility of that success. Although the era was met with mixed critical reactions—some praising its scope and others criticizing its earnestness—it marked an important chapter in U2’s evolution and ultimately pushed the band to reinvent their sound in the 1990s.

Note: If you're signing up for "Guitar 1" as your primary instrument you're committing to lead and rhythm guitar parts, whereas "Guitar 2" is rhythm guitar-parts only. Overall song presentation by all musicians should follow standard instrumentation and arrangements as originally recorded on the song's studio versions, keeping everyone on the same page regarding practice time and event performances.
Bandmixers - Discography / Rules of Participation
- All participating musicians are required to have an early-intermediate to advanced-level skill set and playing ability to participate (see FAQ).
- Accurate, at-home individual learning/practicing along with the ability to readily-apply your respective playing parts into a group rehearsal and live performance setting. It is mandatory you accurately know your parts coming into the first scheduled series rehearsal.
- If you're new to the community and/or are unsure if a given band is the right fit for your particular skill level but have interest in participating, drop us a note and tell us a bit about your playing background, skill level, ability to accurately learn material on your own, etc.
Series Program Format
- We select 4 iconic albums, choose 7 classic tracks from each to make up 4 Discography bands per live event.
- Participating musicians self-select into one of the event's album-showcase bands based on their primary instrument and ability-level.
- Participant cost is $310 and includes:
- Dedicated band member line-up and curated performance series.
- Facilitated, band "meet-n-greet" session to get the ball rolling with the group.
- Three, 2-hour pre-scheduled band rehearsal sessions at our studio facility (see schedule above)
- Curated 7-song album set w/band selected "bonus" track (8 song set in all)
- Venue booking, show promotion and event hosting
- Complimentary drink
