Festival of Friends hosts Songmixers events in select cities across the U.S.  Whether you’re looking for performance experiences in your hometown or have plans to travel to a new city, Festival of Friends Events offers a simple way for everyday players and performers to plug into local, recreational musician communities while offering music fans access to unique, live entertainment.

Our curated music events are less about performer vs audience and more about everyone in the room having a shared musical experience and the result is a party that's always entertaining.  And as serious as we are about what we do, it's really about having a ruinous amount of fun and making a lot of new music-making friends while fostering a recreational musician community in your hometown.

Festival of Friends / Songmixers Event Format

Songmixers is the flagship Festival of Friends Events performance-sharing format.  Songmixers feature a rotating roster of up to 30 musicians that showcase a range of players and performers in your local community.  Collectively musicians perform a 16 to 20 song themed-set from some of rock music's most iconic bands and artists.

The twist: No group rehearsals beforehand.  It's plug-n-play live performance.

Songmixers are made up of:
  • Pre-organized cover song performance collectives showcasing material by iconic bands and artists performed by a rotating cast of musicians over the course of the evening.
  • Guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists (available instrumentation is material dependent) who've registered and accurately learned in advance the songs they want to perform on their primary instrument(s) based on the event's theme and song selection.
  • During open registration participants choose a minimum of 1 song and a maximum of 4 songs (based on your primary instrument(s).
  • If there are additional songs available that you're interested in playing on (beyond your initial selections) we'll notify you about remaining options (at no extra cost) after open registration has closed.
  • As a community-supported organization, event participation includes a registration fee to cover time and costs associated with event curation, administration, organization and show hosting and logistics.  In addition to your performer slots and stage time you'll receive a complimentary drink with your registration fee.

Songmixers events are for:
  • Skilled, armchair musicians as well as everyday and routine players with an intermediate to advanced-level skill set (even if its been a while and you're just looking to kick off the rust).
  • Who can accurately learn material on their own (or w/the help of your instructor) and readily-apply it in a live event setting.  There are no auditions or formalized rehearsals.
  • The only requirements for participating musicians is to come to the show ready to perform (i.e., know the songs and your respective parts), be respectful to your event band mates and have lots of fun!

The benefits of participating include:
  • Simple, convenient and low-pressure way to play in a band and perform live with new faces and old friends minus the legwork of bringing it together.
  • Improve your overall playing through focused, goal-oriented practice time and live performance.
  • Try out new musical styles you might otherwise not have considered or had the opportunity to explore.
  • Spend less time organizing music-making experiences and more time applying your passion and skills in a community-oriented setting.
  • Exciting way to play and perform music minus any long-term commitment above and beyond the events themselves.
