Festival of Friends Events / Tacoma, WA
How It Works
Festival of Friends Events are made up of -
Festival of Friends Events are made up of -
- Pre-organized cover song performance collectives showcasing material by iconic bands and artists performed by a rotating roster of musicians over the course of the evening.
- Guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists and vocalists who've registered in advance for the songs they want to perform on their primary instrument(s). Available instrumentation for each song performance including background vocalists is always material (in general studio tracks) dependent. Background vocalists are always welcome and encouraged to participate so don't let a lead vocalist slot being filled deter you from signing up.
- During open registration participants choose a minimum of 1 song and a maximum of 4 songs (based on their primary instrument and level of playing/performing interest). If there are additional songs available that you're interested in playing on (beyond your initial selections) we'll notify you about remaining options (at no extra cost) after open registration has closed.
- Participating musicians must have the ability to accurately learn material (based on specified studio recordings unless otherwise specified) on their own and readily-apply it in a live event setting. There are no auditions or formalized rehearsals prior to the event so coming prepared is mandatory.

Arena Rock Radio
Arena Rock developed in the mid-'70s, when hard rock and heavy metal bands began to gain popularity. The music became more commercially oriented and radio-friendly, boasting slick productions and anthemic choruses, both on their hard rock numbers and their sweeping power ballads. Most of these bands earned their following through saturation airplay on FM radio and through constant touring. Bands like Journey, REO Speedwagon, Boston, Foreigner, and Styx became some of the most popular bands of the mid- to late '70s through this circuit.
Arena rock (also known as anthem rock, AOR, melodic rock, pomp rock, stadium rock, corporate rock and dad rock is a style of rock music that originated in the mid-1970s. As hard rock bands and those playing a softer yet strident kind of pop rock became increasingly popular, groups began creating material inherently designed for large audiences, and arena rock developed from their use of more commercially oriented and radio-friendly sounds. The often highly produced music, including both upbeat, dramatic songs and slower power ballads, features strong emphasis on melody and frequently employs anthemic choruses. Other major characteristics include prominent guitar effects and the use of keyboard instruments. This 18-song show will feature music from the following bands and artists: INXS, Queen, The Stray Cats, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Billy Idol, The Vapors, Scandal-Patty Smyth, Def Leppard, Alannah Myles, Bryan Adams, Eddie Money, The Go-Go's, Survivor, The Bangels, The Cars, Heart, Bon Jovi and Jane's Addiction. |
