Songmixers Series - Volume 16 // Alternative Pop Classics
|
Festival of Friends Events / Songmixers Series (Vol. 16), showcasing 20 select-songs from 20 different iconic artists and bands from the Arena Rock era.
The "Arena Rock" style developed in the mid-'70s, when hard rock and heavy metal bands began to gain popularity. The music became more commercially oriented and radio-friendly, boasting slick productions with big drums, guitars and vocals and the ever present anthemic choruses, both on their hard rock numbers and power ballads. Many of these acts earned their following through saturation airplay on FM radio and constant touring. Bands like Journey, REO Speedwagon, Boston, Queen and KISS became some of the most popular bands of the mid- to late '70s through this circuit.

One Hit Wonder bands and artists are those that have generally reached some level of mainstream popularity but often for only one piece of work (AKA signature hits) and for better or worse, become known among the general public mainly for that momentary success and tends to overshadow their other work.
One Hit Wonders: love 'em or hate 'em, they've made an indelible mark on music history! For the 14th installment of our Songmixers Series we will showcase a range of material from a diverse group of bands and artists, ranging from the early 1970s to the early 2000's. |

Bandmixers Roulette / Band Themes TBA

Bandmixers Roulette format is simple: community musicians (a mix of instrumentalists and vocalists) sign up, in advance for a "Bandmixers Roulette" musician pool, with up to 30 of you matched-up and united to participate in a game of musical chance by randomly participating in one of 4 Bandmixers Roulette bands at an upcoming scheduled event. Each Roulette band will have a genre-theme assigned and song selections are made collectively by the individual band's members.
Once matched, band mates are united and band genre-themes announced at a Roulette Reveal happy hour. Roulette band members will also participate in online video chats to select the band's songs and determine the band's set order; collaborating to choose 5 classic songs from a pre-selected mix of iconic singles that align with the band's assigned genre-theme. Each Bandmixers Roulette band is provided a 2-hour, dress rehearsal session leading up to the live event. Bandmixers Roulette programming will bring together many facets of our musician community that on the surface, might seem incompatible, or those musicians whose interests might conflict. However, the challenge for these musicians is to go beyond any musical differences and band together to create a unified group that represents the overall style and personality of the collective band members while honoring the band's assigned genre-theme. |
